MANGALDAI: Darrang district administration on Monday conducted out a day-long eviction drive against the unauthorized business establishments at Balugaon market near Kharupetia, which is the largest vegetable market in the State. A good number of businessmen with the patronage from certain political powers have encroached the government land allotted for the Balugaon weekly and daily market and constructed RCC shops, godowns, pharmacies, seed and fertilizer stores, hotels without obtaining permission from the department concerned.

Various organizations of the locality have been demanding the administration to evict the unauthorized encroachers. In the eviction drive conducted on Monday in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Deka, DSP (HQ) Pranjal Bora, a total of 200 unauthorized shops and business establishments were demolished using bulldoggers and labourers. Circle Officer of Dalgaon Revenue Circle Samir Choudhury and Circle Officer (Attached) Sarat Gogoi also supervised the eviction drive.
