Darrang district registered second COVID-19 casualty

MANGALDAI: Rekha Dutta (65), a resident of LNB Road in Mangaldai town who breathed her last in Mangaldai Civil Hospital on Monday night, became the second COVID-19 casualty in the district. Though she was suffering from fever since the last seven days, her family members did not take her to the hospital for medical treatment and she was admitted in Mangaldai Civil Hospital at the eleventh hour. She died before any treatment could be given.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken up initiative for her funeral as per COVID-19 protocol. On the other hand, as the pandemic has taken a serious turn in the district, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah has decided to transform the quarantine centre at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mangaldai as COVID Care Centre with 200 beds. Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Borah said that in view of the possible rapid increase of persons infected with COVID-19, the district administration had no alternative but to look for spacious buildings with isolated campus so the asymptomatic patients could be admitted.

"In the district we already have 30 beds in the isolation ward in Mangaldai Civil Hospital, 50 beds each in the model hospitals at Janaram Chowka, Kunwari Pukhuri and Duni to accommodate 180 COVID-19 infected patients where oxygen facility can be offered. But the asymptomatic patients will be admitted in the COVID Care Centre at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mangaldai. The required medical team with para medicos has also been arranged," said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah.
