Darrang Health department functioning without Joint Director of Health Services

MANGALDAI: The post of Joint Director of Health Services in the Darrang district has been lying vacant since December 31 following the superannuation of the service of Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Harpal Singh Suri.

In a temporary arrangement, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (HQ) Dr Binod Kalita has been entrusted with the charge of the Joint Director of Health Services but he will also be superannuated from his service on January 31. Significantly, Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr Nirmal Beria has also been transferred from the district on promotion as the Joint Director of Health Services in Guwahati.

Though the District Health department here in Darrang has been functioning under the officiating Joint Director of Health Services, all financial matters are lying pending as he is not authorized with the financial matters.

Significantly, Darrang district has already been enlisted as one of the Aspirational Districts, yet the District Health department here is functioning without the Head of the Department. On the other hand, a number of posts of Medical and Health Officer 1(MHO 1) and Senior Medical Officers (SMO) are also reportedly lying vacant in different state hospitals of the district.

Mangaldai Media Circle, a premier organization of the media persons of Darrang, has sought the intervention of the Chief Minister in this regard and requested him to fill up all the vacant posts in the district Health department immediately in the greater interest of the people of the district.
