MANGALDAI: “It is matter of pride that the young and progressive agricultural entrepreneurs of Darrang, blessed with the glorious heritage of the 140 Krishak Swahids of the historic ‘Krishak Vidroh of 1894’ at Pothorughat, have come forward to dedicate and devote their time in agriculture, adopting the latest technology, and I salute them for their tremendous achievement both in the national and international level. I also make a humble appeal to the younger generation of the district to join hands with the progressive agriculture entrepreneurs of the district,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Kalpana Deka while inaugurating the two-day long Krishak Mela-2020 organized at Sainik Bhavan on Monday.

The ‘Krishak Mela’ was organized by the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of the District Agriculture department with the aim to provide the agriculture entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their products and to arrange for a close interaction of the agriculture entrepreneurs with the agriculture scientists and officials. Earlier, District Agriculture Officer Bharat Kumar Deuri inaugurated the exhibition in presence of a large number of farmers, officials and members of self-help groups. Ideal agriculture entrepreneurs Habib Rahman, Ashadulla Ahcon and Jahangir Alam of Kharupetia, Dhruba Jyoti Saikia of Ramgaon, Nabab Ali of Khandajan, Khirod Sarma of Haldha, avian entrepreneur Kushal Deka of Deomornoi and several other farmers took part in the exhibition with their stall.

Taking part in the interaction, the participating farmers also narrated their experience in continuing their Agri farming and appealed to the government to make positive arrangements for a suitable market throughout the State so that the hard-earned labor of the rural farmers could get the right price for their produce. Media person Bhargab Kumar Das, while taking part in the inaugural function, offered the suggestion to arrange for exposure trips, exclusively for the rural farmers, in advanced foreign countries. Significantly, though invited, no parliamentarian or legislator of the district took part in the Krishak Mela.
