MANGALDAI: In view of the enforcement of the amended Motor Vehicle Act throughout the country, the Darrang Police, since the very day of the implementation of this act, have been taking elaborate arrangements to create awareness among the common citizens, particularly young drivers and riders, in different parts of the district.

With the same motto to create awareness in the far-flung rural areas, the Darrang Police on Monday took out a motor cycle rally to cover the rural areas. Fifteen experienced ‘Men in Khaki’ took part in the rally and interacted closely with the villagers and youngsters regarding the need and significance of road safety measures.

“The district police in Darrang are committed for the safety, security and well-being of all the citizens of the district. In view of the recent amendment in the Motor Vehicle Act, we are going to create awareness in the entire district to make the citizens well aware of the amended Motor Vehicle Act. At the same time, the police will take up a strict role against all the offenders of the provision of the Motor Vehicle Act,” said Darrang Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan while flagging off the motor cycle rally organized for the first time in the district at Mangaldai Police Station on Monday morning.

In the flagging off function attended by Deputy Superintendent of Police (B) Anita Hazarika and other officials, Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan also appealed to all non-government organizations and voluntary organizations to take part in the awareness programme so that common people too get the opportunity to acquire information on road safety rules and provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act. The motor cycle rally will cover Kharupetia, Dalgaon, Dhula, Mangaldai and Sipajhar areas of the district.

Significantly, as a part of the awareness campaign, a highly professional and experienced cultural group of the State has taken part in a series of street plays in different areas on the need of road safety measures.
