Dates, Hema Malini's Participation in Nalbari's Raas Mahotsav Confirmed by Jayanta Malla Baruah

The cabinet minister further stated that the people will be provided with paper bags as the Nalbari Raas this year will be 'plastic free'.

GUWAHATI: On Sunday, the dates of 89th Nalbari Raas Mahotsav's mega events were announced by Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.

The 89th iteration of the Nalbari Raas Mahotsav will be celebrated for 13 days starting on November 7, according to Jayanta Malla Baruah's statement.

The state minister was informed by Devananda Goswami that this year's Raas Mahotsav would be inaugurated by the Satradhikar of Batadrava's Narowa Satra.

Hema Malini, the famous Bollywood actress, will launch Assam's live Raas on November 14, according to Jayanta Malla Baruah, who spoke at the press conference. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend as the event's special guest.

This time, the Raas program will start at the Ganesh Mandir on National Highway 31. This year's Nalbari Raas will be plastic-free. Paper bags will be given away without cost to the public.

The cabinet minister declared that it would be unlawful to utilize narcotic medications at Harmandir in Nalbari.  

"During Raas, the sale of alcohol in Nalbari will halt at 8 p.m. At Nalbari Raas Mahotsav, a total of seven mobile theatres playing plays will be set up. Along with awards for the top actors and actresses, there will also be a competition among the mobile theatres," the minister continued.

He added that this time, live broadcasts of several Raas, including those from Guwahati's Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Mathura's Vrindavan Raas, Gujarat's Dandiya Raas, Manipur's Basant Raas, and others, will be made available.

This year's celebration is anticipated to be quite lavish with an allocated budget of Rs 80 lakhs and it marks the 89th anniversary of its beginning in 1933. In addition to the local performers, the event at the temple will also feature guest performers from a number of other states. This also applies to Gujarati teams. Due to the impending threat of Covid-19 in the last two years, the event was conducted informally.  So, this year, everyone anticipates a huge turnout.

sources said, after everything is over in Nalbari, the Raas celebration in Majuli will also start.
