MORIGAON: The 100-year-old 'Daul Mandir' of Sildubi Xatra besides two other houses at Laharighat and Moirabari were damaged in the earthquake on Wednesday morning.

The strong tremor jolted the area including Sataborigaon (where the xatra is located) under Jagibhakatgaon Gaon Panchayat in Jagiroad constituency.

The earthquake of magnitude 6.7 in the Richter scale jolted the State at around 7.51 am on Wednesday.

BAKSA: The entire State including the Tamulpur subdivision was hit by the 6.7-magnitude earthquake at 7.15 am on Wednesday. The frightened people rushed out of their houses and many gathered at the open space on the highway. A chaotic situation prevailed at that time in entire Tamulpur subdivision.

On the other hand, a huge crack was witnessed on the Tamulpur- Dhamdhama PWD Road that passes through the Hahkata-Balabari area on the western end of Tamulpur subdivision over the Pagaldiya River. Mud and water seeped out of the crack on the road leading to the Hahkata- Balabari PWD road which is under construction.

Following the quake, a huge crack was noticed in the house of Tapan Das of Hanhakata Balabari Village even as water and mud seeping from the cracked ground caused some damage to the house. This has left the villagers of Hahkata- Balabari village in a state of shock.

An RCC house of Harsha Rana of Kumarikata Bahbari Village in the Tamulpur subdivision has been also severely damaged. The RCC fence of the house collapsed due to the earthquake. This resulted in some damage to the goods inside the house.

The quake was also felt in several areas of Bhutan.
