TINSUKIA: Observing the 1st death anniversary of journalist Parag Bhuyan with protest, the Kakopathar Press Club (KPC) on Friday expressed dismay over the non-publication of CID's report to ascertain the cause of his death who died due to a road accident on November 12, 2020 under mysterious circumstances.
Though the then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal handed over the case to State's CID, the latter carried out the investigation but is yet to submit its report. Bhuyan was the president of Kakopathar Press Club and also vice president of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association. The members of KPC along with local citizens while paying tribute to Bhuyan observed a silent protest with the display of placards that demanded justice to the family members. His unusual death led to a statewide protest by journalists' fraternity even reacted by a UN member.
The anniversary-cum- protest programme was held at Kakopathar Hindi School with Bijoy Dutta, president of KPC, in the chair. Among those who addressed the gathering was Monuranjan Neog, president & Dwipen Lohokor, secretary i/c of APCU Tinsukia district committee, Bikash Talukdar, secretary, AJYCP, Kakopathar Ancholik committee, Ancholik leaders of AASU and AMSU besides others.
