SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR: By September medical experts have predicted COVID-19 cases across the country will reach the climax to decline gradually. This is shown in the district of Cachar where, according to Suman Choudhury, district media expert of health department, the positivity rate has come down to 2% only. In massive Rapid Antigen Test of 5814 teachers, assistant teachers, other staff and midday meal workers on Monday, 131 cases turned out to be positive, indicating only 2% rate, a notable declining trend and a hope for better. Along with that on the same day, RT PCR tests were done on 140 persons. Such tests will continue, he pointed out.

On the other hand, Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice President of SMCH, said till date, RT PCR tests were done on 1,06,666 persons, 5,240 persons tested positive. On Monday, 253 persons underwent RAT and only 3 tested positive. Till date, RAT was conducted on 9731 persons and 944 turned out to be positive. Another good piece of information shared by Dr Gupta is that of the 17 patients admitted in one day, 11 were discharged.

At present, active cases in SMCH are 117. 16 admitted in ICU, on ventilation 2, in critical condition 22 and 6 on oxygen support. Only one death reported during the last 24 hours. 59 are confirmed COVID-19 deaths in SMCH on record. Dr Gupta also said recovery rate being satisfactory, this carries lot of positive indications. This is also borne by the fact that till date 2,845 patients admitted in SMCH, 1782 have been discharged.
