LAKHIMPUR: During the lockdown when movement of human beings has been restricted, wild animals have started to come out from the jungle to the residential areas under the Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district.

On Saturday afternoon, a deer was noticed grazing in the open paddy field of Dhenukhana Hilodary village under the subdivision. On seeing the wild deer grazing in the open field, a section of local people started a hue and cry at which the deer entered the household of one Subhan Gogoi, a resident of the village. As soon as the information was received, the Village Defence Party of the village recovered the deer and handed it over to the officials of the Dhakuakhana Sub-Beat Office of the Forest Department. A team of forest officials, led by Forester Chandra Kanta Das, brought the deer to the office and it was given treatment by Dr Rupam Gogoi for injuries on the legs and face. Unfortunately, the deer could not recover and breathed its last around 10 pm on Saturday.
