Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Expected To Visit Guwahati On May 29

Guwahati: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to visit Assam on May 29.

The Delhi CM will come down to the state with the objective of strengthening the party's base in the state with 10 lakh members joining the party.

While speaking to local media, Dr Bhaben Choudhury, Assam State Coordinator of the AAP, said that the state unit of the party has proposed a date to the party chief Arvind Kejriwal to visit Guwahati on May 29.

"We have proposed the date to the Chief Minister of Delhi but the confirmation is yet to be received based on the weather. Kejriwal will participate in a roadshow at Guwahati for which good weather is necessary and if everything goes well he will join us in the roadshow on May 29," said Choudhury.

Meanwhile, the party has established its base in the state by securing a ward in the recently concluded Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. The party secured the second position in 24 wards and it also managed to secure the third position in the entire elections with 4,40,000 votes after Congress.

However, the party has not confined itself to Guwahati and has expanded its footprints in other districts of the state as well with a lot of people joining the party on a regular basis of late.

Moreover, the AAP is eyeing to replace Congress as the principal opposition party in the state and is pursuing to provide a viable alternative to the BJP. 

The party's morale has been boosted by the induction of several leaders into the AAP. 

Earlier, Raijor Dal Vice President Kamal Kumar Medhi had jumped ship and switched over to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on May 2 along with five other members of the regional party.

Besides the members of the Raijor Dal, some Congress leaders had also deserted the Grand Old Party and joined AAP. It included the likes of Congress's Manoj Dhanowar and Dwijen Gogoi who joined the AAP in the presence of its party National Secretary Pankaj Gupta.
