Guwahati: Railway Protection Force (RPF) sleuths of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended a rape accused on 14 February from Dibrugarh bound Rajdhani Express.

The accused has been identified as Khalil Islam and he is around 18 years. Rape charges had been slapped against Khalil and a case had been registered against him by the Delhi Police.

According to reports, Khalil was travelling to Assam and he was arrested at Kishanganj railway station.

As per NFR sources, Crime Branch/New Delhi tipped off the concerned authorities on February 13 at about 09:35 hours about the accused who was travelling by train No. 12424 UP (New Delhi – Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express) (in Coach No. A-5, Berth No. 38).

After getting notified about the incident, The Divisional Security Control Room of RPF/Agra contacted with Security Control of RPF/Katihar division and thereafter, the entire incident was informed to RPF/Post/Kishanganj.

Officers and staff of RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the local police of Kishanganj acted on the information and detained the accused as soon as the train he was travelling in arrived at the Kishanganj railway station.

The accused was later handed over to GRP/Kishanganj for further action.

Earlier, a rape accused from Assam, who was absconding, was arrested by the Maharashtra police from Assam's Hailakandi.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Mumbai Crime branch arrived at Hailakandi to nab the heinous crime accused. The local police picked up the accused and handed him over to the investigating Mumbai police team.

The accused had been identified as one Sajjid Ahmed Mazumdar from Dhanipur under the Lala Police Station, Hailakandi.

An official of the Mumbai police told media that a woman filed a complaint against Mazumdar in the Colaba Police Station last year.

Based on her complaint, the police filed a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched an investigation.
