GORESWAR: The Kalita Janagosthi Students’ Union (AAKJSU) has demanded inclusion of Kalita Janagosthi’s history in the curriculum of Class IX and Class X.

In a press release, Anupal Dutta Pathok, president, Samarjyoti Deka, vice-president and Bhaskar Kalita, secretary of the students’ union, expressed strong resentment over the Assamese rapid reader of Class IX and Class X titled Baisitra Axom where the history of all ethnic groups of Assam has been reflected. But the book allegedly neglects the Kalita Janagosthi community.

“The Kalita Janagosthi is an ancient group of Assam with 70 lakh population. Yet the group is neglected by the Assam government as well as the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA). The Kalita Janagosthi community has a rich culture and its contribution to the nation is noteworthy. From Kalita king Bhagadutta in the Mahabharata to Haradutta, Veeradutta, Arimatta, Mahapurush Madhab Dev, litterateur Banikanta Kakati, freedom fighter Maniram Dewan, martyr Khargeswar Talokdar, poet Raghunath Choudhury, politician Bishnuram Medhi, Mohendra Mohan Choudhury, Bimala Prasad Chaliha and Kaliram Medhi, all were from the Kalita Janagosthi community. Yet, the community has not been included in the rapid reader of Class IX and Class X,” stated the press release.
