Democratic demand for creation of Dimaraji will continue: Nunisa

Haflong: The democratic demand for the creation of a separate Dimaraji (Dimaland) state within the Indian Union for the development of cultures and languages of ‘subjects of the erstwhile Kachari kingdom now in Assam and Nagaland’ will continue, said Dilip Nunisa, former chairman of the Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) recently.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the chief guest at the homecoming ceremony of the DNLA. He assured the DNLA cadres of the implementation of the accords signed. At the same time, the Chief Minister forgot to take initiatives to implement the Memorandum of Settlement signed between the Government of Assam, India, and two brothers of DHD on October 8, 2012, in New Delhi, Nunisa said.

Nunisa further said that the Government of Assam and the Centre had not taken up even a single Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) meeting for the implementation of the MoS since 2014 in New Delhi.

The incomplete works of the State government and the Centre under the MoS and other clauses, as enumerated by Nunisa, are: Construction of Sonaram Thaosen Media Centre, Halali Raji, Dibarai Haflong since 2016, for which the foundation stone was laid by the then Governor of Assam, Rajkumari Dishrudi Community Homestay and Eco-Tourism Park at Panimur.

There have been no arrangements for rehabilitation for the former DHD revolutionary cadres until today. The pending sanction for the Dimasa Dairy Cooperative Society Ltd. project has been prepared for the self-rehabilitation of our people in Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, since 2017.

There are no proper financial arrangements for the smooth functioning of the Barman Dimasa Kachari Development Council, which was formed under Clause 2.8 of the MoS for the development of the culture and language of the Dimasa Kacharis living outside Dima Hasao District.

The incomplete bridge between Dhansiripar and Bheta gaon Karbi Anglong on the Dhansiri River has been pending for the last nine years.

They also demanded the construction of infrastructure and smooth functioning of offices at Diyungbra Subdivision (Civil), which was inaugurated by the then CEM NCHAC Debojeet Thaosen.

In these above matters and a number of grievances that could not be mentioned, the government and its agencies should look into the proper implementation of MoS for the greater interest of the citizens, which the Chief Minister of Assam was yet to take up during his last two-and-a-half years of regime at Dispur, Nunisa added.

A signatory to the MoS, Nunisa called upon the Chief Minister not to repeat the same history of DHD in the case of DNLA, which may pave the way for the formation of another armed group, and to try to implement all the clauses of the MoS signed by DHD or anyone else.
