Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar gives away Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award in Tezpur

Tezpur: Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar on Monday handed over the Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Award under the category of Special Merit Awards for Girl Students to Joshita Kashyap, an alumnus of Assam Valley School, Tezpur, batch of 2017 for securing highest marks in Arts stream in the Senior Secondary School (Class XII) Examination 2017, conducted by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The meeting held on the occasion was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner and District Development Commissioner Farouk Alam gave the welcome speech and explained the objectives of the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar handed over the award and citation along with a draft of Rs. 20,000 to the awardee and wished her a bright future in the presence of ADC Parag Kakoty, Orpah Baglary, S. Sarmah from Assam Valley School and other senior district administration officials.

The awardee thanked the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for the recognition and said such awards would go a long in encouraging girl students to achieve more in life. Joshita Kashyap is currently pursuing her bachelors’ degree in psychology from Lady Shri Ram College under Delhi University. She is the youngest daughter of retired ACS officer Hemanta Kumar Das and Poornima Devi from Tinsukia.

The Dr Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) was set up on March 24, 1992 under the Union Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment. The Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award is given to recognize meritorious performance by Scheduled Caste students at the Senior Secondary School Examination (12th) level in four streams i.e. Arts, Science (with Maths), Science (with Biology/ Maths & Biology) and Commerce covering all 29 Central/State Boards in the country.

The award is given to three students scoring the highest marks in regular Class XII level exam and the next three girl students securing the highest marks in each stream are given a special award of Rs. 20,000 each under the Special Merit Awards for girl students’ category.
