Haflong: Along with the rest of the State, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) secretariat complex to honour Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his 82nd death anniversary. Principal Secretary of NCHAC, LZ Nampui and Principal Secretary (N) Mukut Kemprai, along with other Council Secretaries, paid floral tribute during the programme.

Remembering the six Assam Police personnel who lost their lives in the recent Assam-Mizoram border incident, Principal Secretary L Z Nampui during her speech laid stress on patriotism, unity and love for motherland by every Indian citizen. Citing the life history of the multifaceted personality, she spoke at length about Tarun Ram Phukan as a politician, writer and freedom fighter. Principal Secretary of the Normal sector of NCHAC, Mukut Kemprai also narrated about the life of the great personality.

As part of the programme, a one-minute silence was observed for six martyred police personnel. The programme, organized by the District Information and Public Relations office under the guidance of NCHAC, was widely attended by officers and staff of various departments under the administrative control of the NCHAC. The programme began with a floral tribute to the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan followed by felicitation of the guests present.

Desh Bhakti Divas was also observed at the Deputy Commissioner's office where Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua paid floral tribute to the portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan. Along with him were ADC, L Khiengte, SDO (S), Election Officer, Assistant Commissioners, other officers and staff of the district administration.

GOLAGHAT: The 82nd death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan was observed at the DC's conference hall under the aegis of the district administration and the District Information and Public Relation Office, Golaghat on Wednesday.

The programme started with the lighting of lamp by the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Mrigesh Narayan Barua. Floral tribute was offered at the portrait of the great freedom fighter. Chief Executive officer of Golaghat Zila Parishad, Dhiraj Das, DIPRO of Golaghat, Pompi Devi, ADC Kuldip Hazarika, District Development Officer Orpha Baglary and other employees were present in the programme.

The district administration also felicitated four freedom fighters of the district in their houses. Freedom fighter Ganesh Hazarika of Dergaon, Ponaram Chutia of Singorajan, Purnakanta Phukan of Barichoa Habichukia gaon and Tulan Tamuly of Bokotial gaon of Kamarbandha were felicitated by Deputy Commissioner Mrigesh Narayan and other officials.

TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the State, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed on Wednesday at Margherita College under the aegis of the Subdivisional Officer (Civil) and office of the Subdivisional Information and Public Relations Officer, in association with Margherita College, to commemorate the death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan.

The event commenced with a welcome note from Ramen Hazarika, Associate Professor, Department of Assamese, Margherita College. Ceremonial lamp was lit on the occasion and floral tributes were offered by all guests. Palash Rajkumar Ahom, ADC i/c Margherita, paid tribute to the Desh Bhakta and recalled his contributions to the freedom struggle of Assam. Debajit Singha, Principal of Margherita College, noted senior citizens Barun Borah and Bisanong Singhpo also spoke on the occasion.

BONGAIGAON: Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in Chirang district to mark the death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan under the aegis of the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO), Chirang, at the office premises at Kajalgaon on Wednesday.

The programme, which began with lighting of the shradhanjali lamp by Khanindra Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chirang, was followed by offering floral tribute to the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram by Lakhinath Brahma, Sahitya Akademi awardee, noted educationist and social worker.

Remembering Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan, all the dignitaries present on the occasion paid homage to him and elaborately discussed about his life history, including his contribution during the freedom struggle and to the society in various fields.

In another programme, held in the conference hall of Bijni Civil Subdivisional Officer's office in connection with celebration of Desh Bhakti Divas, noted social worker Sabir Kumar Das lit the shradhanjali lamp and paid homage to Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan in the presence of Assistant Commissioner of Bijni, Bruhid Rabha, and Harilal Bayan, vice-president of Chirang District Sahitya Sabha. In the same way, Desh Bhakti Divas was also observed by Bongaigaon district administration in the DC's office. Deputy Commissioner Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, DDC Bhaskar Das, ADCs Pankaj Chamua and Nabajyoti Ojha were present in the programme.

Tezpur: On the occasion of the 82nd death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on Wednesday, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in a solemn function organized by the office of the District Information and Public Relations Officer, Sonitpur, in association with the Sonitpur district administration at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das paid floral tributes at the portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan on the occasion. Senior district administration officials, including ADC Romy Baruah, DIPRO Neena Baruah and others, also paid homage on the occasion.

The programme was conducted by Assistant Commissioner Kabita Phangchoi. A one-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls of the Assam Police personnel who lost their lives in the Assam-Mizoram border clash recently.

As part of the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjib Dalai along with Circle Officer of Naduar, Akashdeep Kakoty, Circle Officer Mantosh Chakraborty and BDO Naduar visited freedom fighter Thogi Ram Borah of Moronakuri village under Silabandha mouza under Naduar circle of Sonitpur and felicitated the 99-year-old freedom fighter with a phulam gamosa, fruits and sweets on behalf of the district administration.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath on the occasion of the 82nd death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan, under the aegis of the Department of Information and Public Relations and in association with the district administration. Pranab Kumar Sarmah, Deputy Commissioner, inaugurated the function by lighting the earthen lamp. He was assisted by Additional Deputy Commissioners Md Miftahuddin Ahmed and Dr Surya Kamal Borah. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan. Speaking on the occasion, Sarmah shed light on the life and work of the patriot. He further said that Tarun Ram Phukan was a freedom fighter and a literary man at the same time and was one of the leaders in the non-cooperation movement started by Mahatma Gandhi to liberate the country. He was also the president of Axam Xahitya Xabha's annual convention held at Goalpara in 1927.

LAKHIMPUR: Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday under the auspices of the District Information and Public Relation Office and in association with the district administration, in the office campus adhering to COVID-19 protocol.

To commemorate this multi-faceted freedom fighter, the programme began with the lighting of earthen lamp by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, under the management of District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) Mandira Chayengiya. The DIPRO explained the objective of the programme and delivered the welcome speech. Attending the event as guests of honour, District Freedom Fighter Sanmilan secretary Ganesh Dutta, assistant secretary Dilip Kumar Roy, Senior Citizens' Association secretary Thaneswar Gogoi, and others delivered speech highlighting the tremendous contributions of Tarun Ram Phukan.

In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan paid profound tribute to the freedom fighter. "The noble ideologies of great men make our lives sublime. Following their path we can serve our State and the nation in various ways. At present, combating the COVID-19 pandemic by the frontline fighters, healthcare workers, officials, journalists and all concerned is an example of their patriotism and service to the nation and mankind," said the Deputy Commissioner.

The DIPRO and the employees of the establishment feted the freedom fighters of the district with phulam gamosa, a bottle of sanitizer and a packet of fruits by visiting their homes.
