LAKHIMPUR: “We all want development. But the comprehensive development of the State is not possible without the equal development of all communities,”, stated Pallab Bhattacharya, the Director General of Police (Special Branch), while taking part in the open session of the mid-term conference of the Chutia Yuva Sanmilan.
Attending as the guest of honour in the event, which was solemnized at the Lakhsmi Narayan Khsetra of Marnai Bebejia under Dhakuakhona subdivision with a two-day long agenda on January 5 and January 6, the DGP(SB) released the souvenir of the event Saonpara, edited by Navakanta Chutia. In his lecture, Bhattacharya laid stress on the social and political awareness of all citizens in order to ensure balanced progress of the society.
The open session was chaired by Chutia Yuva Sanmilan president Bitopan Saikia while the programme was inaugurated by Chutia Jati Sanmilan secretary Haren Chutia. He stated that the Chutia community had suffered a lot, being the victims of political negligence which caused the community to remain underdeveloped. He appealed to his native people to establish their rights with mass movement. Chutia Yuva Sanmilan president Bitopan Saikia and secretary Nripen Khanikar submitted a memorandum with 17 demands to minister Ranjit Dutta who was present in the event representing the Chief Minister of the State. Dutta in his speech stated that he individually supported granting of ST status to the six communities of the State. “There is no substitute to granting tribal status to the indigenous communities to safeguard them,” he remarked.
As per the agenda of the concluding day, a colourful cultural procession was taken out prior to the open session and it was inaugurated by Dhakuakhona district unit of Chutia Jati Sanmilan president Hem Baruah. On the other hand, Sadou Asom Matak Yuva Chatra Sanmilan president Devid Chutia, TMPK general secretary Padmalosan Doley, AJYP secretary Udayan Gogoi, Lakhimpur SP Sudhakar Singh along with a host of dignitaries and many other organizations as well as Chutia community organizations were present in the programme.
