HAFLONG: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), Debolal Gorlosa, attended the Book Release Ceremony of the Foundation Course Textbook—a landmark educational initiative aimed at introducing the Dimasa Mother Tongue as the medium of instruction across 278 Dimasa Medium Lower Primary (LP) Schools in the district. The ceremony was held at the Cultural Institute Hall in Haflong on Saturday.
This initiative marks a significant step toward preserving and promoting the Dimasa language, cultural identity, and heritage. By introducing foundational education in the mother tongue, the effort not only aims to improve learning outcomes among young students but also seeks to strengthen their connection to their indigenous roots. The project reflects a broader commitment to safeguarding local traditions and reviving vernacular education as a means of ensuring the Dimasa language continues to flourish for future generations.
CEM Debolal Gorlosa attended the ceremony as the chief guest. He was joined by DHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai, Executive Members, Members of the Autonomous Council (MACs), departmental officials, and representatives from various Dimasa apex bodies and students’ unions. Also in attendance were headmasters and teachers from LP Schools across the district, along with community members who expressed deep appreciation for this cultural milestone.
During his address, CEM Gorlosa congratulated the authors, editors, and contributors of the textbook for their dedicated efforts in making the publication a reality. He described the textbook as a significant contribution to Dimasa literature and emphasized the role of mother tongue education in nurturing a strong sense of identity and cultural pride among the Dimasa people.
The Foundation Course Textbook is designed to provide a solid educational base for children to learn and excel in their native language. CEM Gorlosa expressed hope that this initiative would inspire younger generations to value and uphold their linguistic and cultural heritage, thereby fostering greater inclusivity and diversity in education.
