Dhaccapatty in Nagaon Officially Renamed as ‘Rupkonwar Chowk’

NAGAON: The name of the old Dhaccapatty area of Nagaon town is to be known as Rupkonwar Chowk from Tuesday onwards.

While addressing a press conference at the conference hall of his office, District Commissioner Devasish Sharma informed this to the local mediapersons on Tuesday. He said that the change in name was initiated after Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent instruction.

It’s pertinent to mention that following the barbaric attack on a biker by a youth of minority community a couple of days back, Chief Minister Dr Sarma directed District Commissioner Devasish Sharma to rename Dhaccapatty area and the DC, after discussions with local organizations as well as other noted individuals, finally decided to slate the name of the area as ‘Rupkonwar Chowk’ instead of Dhaccapatty.
