DHEKIAJULI: Dhekiajuli town has been tense over the demolition of a Kali Temple by some miscreants, erecting a fence surrounding the temple and the police preventing the local populace to reconstruct the temple.

Navaratna Durga Puja Committee, Dhekiajuli has been celebrating Durga Puja every year for the last 25 years near the site of NH-15 at Dhekiajuli town. However, recently some miscreants demolished the temple campus and surrounded it with a boundary wall at the temple site. The matter was reported to the Circle officer, Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle and the local police. A suit was also filed at Tezpur Session Court.

However, there has been no step from the administration for the reconstruction of the temple there. On Tuesday hundreds of people gathered at the disputed site and started reconstructing the damaged temple. The local administration, however, prevented the gathering from the reconstructing the temple. Sonitpur Additional SP Nomal Mahatoo and the Dhekiajuli Circle Officer reached the spot. Paramilitary forces, CRPF and other police forces were deployed immediately at the disputed site to prevent the law-and-order situation from being escalated. While people supporting the reconstruction of the temple at the site were shouting slogans, ASP Mahatoo discussed the matter with them and brought the situation under control.
