Dhemaji rejoices as two meritorious students make it to toppers' list

LAKHIMPUR: Two meritorious students have brought laurels to Dhemaji and made the people of the district feel proud at their outstanding performance in the Higher Secondary final examination. They are Sarat Saikia of Dhemaji Public School and Ankita Bhuyan of Kiran Academy Junior College.

Sarat Sakia secured the 5th rank in the Arts stream while Ankita Bhuyan bagged the 10th rank in the Arts stream.

Sarat Saikia secured a total of 471 marks with 94.2 overall percentage. He scored 85 in English, 97 in Assamese, 99 in Political Science, 94 in Anthropology, 96 Geography and 85 in Economics. He is the youngest son of Upen Saikia and Mandira Saikia, residents of Borpak Jiyamoriya village. He lost his father in his childhood and mother just before his HSLC exam two years ago. After passing the HSLC exam, the responsibility of his studies was shouldered by Dhemaji Public School for two years. Under such circumstances, Sarat thanked the school authority and Principal Pradip Gogoi for his success. He wants to be an administrative officer and will pursue his graduation with Political Science as Major subject.

The Dhemaji district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) will shoulder the responsibility of his future study. Dhemaji district AASU president Dipak Sarmah and general secretary Kalyan Gogoi declared this after the organization congratulated and felicitated the student for his exemplary performance. His 21-year old elder brother Narayan Saikia is the bread earner of the family while his elder sister is doing her degree course.

Ankita Bhuyan, who appeared for the exam from Kiran Academy Junior College, secured 85 in English, 95 in Assamese, 93 in Political Science, 95 Education and 98 in Geography. She secured a grand total of 466 with 93.2 overall percentage. She is the daughter of Lakhinath Bhuyan, a teacher of a non-provincialized ME School, and Niru Bhuyan, a Jeevika Sakhi of ASRLM, who are the residents of Choukhamting village under Sissi Borgaon area of the district. She will study in Cotton University with Political Science as Major subject. She aims to be an administrative officer in future.
