GUWAHATI: Police in Assam's Cachar district detained up to four lorries that were illegally transporting government-subsidized fertilizers on Friday night.

Four additional persons were detained in connection with the bust, according to the early reports. According to officials, Dholai Police conducted a special operation based on particular intelligence, during which the four trucks carrying illegal fertiliser were stopped.

A total of 2,000 bags of illicit fertilizer, or at least 500 bags from each of the trucks were reportedly seized, while the Dholai Police detained four people.

According to sources, the smugglers were being stopped by the authorities as they attempted to take the fertilizer to the bordering state of Mizoram.

The four vehicles used in the operation have license plates AS 01 DD 0118, AS 01 EC 4953, AS 01 FC 6509, and AS 01 PC 6510. Saharul Borbhuyan, Kamrul Islam, Asim Das, and Uttam Das were among those detained by the police at the time.

Taking to Twitter, Cachar Police wrote, "During special ops conducted by Dholai PS staff intercepted 4 Nos. of vehicles Reg. No. AS01DD 0118, AS01EC4953, AS01 FC6509 & AS01PC6510 & recovered & seized 2000 bags of illegal fertilizer and arrested 4 persons."

It should be mentioned that earlier this month, authorities raided a warehouse in the Barpeta region of Assam and seized massive amounts of subsidized urea and Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizers, which were estimated to be worth in the thousands of rupees.

Initial reports state that a raid was conducted last night in Khairabari hamlet near Barpeta Road in the Baksa district of Assam under the direction of Nilotpal Saikia, a police officer with the Salbari sub-division police, and that a sizable quantity of stored fertilizer was seized.

Police authorities reported that they had also taken numerous bags of fertilizer from the warehouse, along with packaging materials and machines, along with the subsidized urea.
