DHUBRI: State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited quarantine centres in various places of Dhubri district and held meeting with officials here at the Dhubri DC's office conference hall on Tuesday.

Sarma, while addressing media persons at the lounge of Dhubri District Judicial enclosure, said that steps were being taken to open the Kismathasdah Model Hospital near Dhubri for COVID-19 patients. Replying to a question on the situation of Dhubri district in view of growing cases of COVID-19, Sarma said, "Nearly 23,000 migrant workers coming particularly from the eastern region were quarantined since May 5 and 16,000 out of them have already been sent home. There are around 50 active COVID-19 positive cases from Dhubri and some of them are being treated in Dhubri."

When asked about coronavirus testing facility in Dhubri, Sarma said that there would be a testing lab in Dhubri Civil Hospital. He also assured opening the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, which was under construction, within six months to one year time.

Replying to a question on the non-plying of inter-district buses by the owners from Dhubri, Sarma assured to look into the issue to ensure plying of inter-district buses soon.

"This corona fear and phobia will die down by June 15 and the government will have to concentrate on the preparedness to face the imminent flood in the State," Sarma added. He also informed that schools would be opened for Class X and Class XII soon and he was expecting another 1 lakh migrant workers to come by June 15.
