DHUBRI: On the occasion of the 513th birth anniversary of Mahabir Chilarai, Dhubri district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) took a pledge to set up a research centre on Mahabir Chilarai to study his humanitarian works, ideals, vast warfare strategies and other aspects of his life.

While celebrating the birth anniversary of the great warrior at Chilarai Park, Dhubri district unit of AJYCP felicitated former vice-president of Axam Xahitya Xabha and litterateur Pachu Gopal Chakraborty and conferred him the Chilarai Award comprising of phulam gamosa, citation and memento, recently.

Speaking in the meeting, a retired teacher, Jakir Hussain spoke as appointed speaker on Chilarai's life and his humanitarian works while secretary of AJYCP central committee, Ratul Borgohain, president of Dhubri Xahitya Xabha, Udayan Chakraborty, assistant secretary of AJYCP central committee, Ratul Talukdar also addressed the meeting and appealed to people follow and emulate the ideologies and ideals of Chilarai to strengthen the fabric of harmony among the different communities of the State.

Secretary of AJYCP, Ratul Borgohain in his speech informed that the organization was going to set up a research and study centre on Mahabir Chilarai soon in Dhubri and also place a demand before the State and Central governments to accord national recognition and honour of warrior to Mahabir Chilarai.

Earlier in the morning, flag hoisting was done and an art competition was held and floral tribute was paid to the statue of Bir Chilarai. At the end of the programme, prizes to the winners of the art competition were given away by the dignitaries present.
