Dhubri observed State Bank Day, held eye check-up camp and ‘Water Abuse’ awareness campaign

DHUBRI: Colleague, an NGO, and SBI Pensioners’ Association, Dhubri observed State Bank Day by organizing an eye check-up camp and an awareness campaign on ‘Water Abuse’ at Sishu Kalyan Lower Primary School on Monday.

Eyes of 72 patients were screened by Dr J Sharma and AR Rahman looked into the patients. The organizer supplied necessary medicines to the patients. On the same day, an awareness programme on water abuse was organized. The secretary, Madhab Chandra Paul explained the objective of the meeting. Probationary Officer, State Bank of India, U Bhutia also addressed the meeting and informed about the services and products of the bank.

Chanda Taater, MA in Science of living, meditation and yoga, was felicitated by JK Kundu, president of SBI Pensioners’ Association, Dhubri, and a memento was offered to her. Tater was the trainer in seven-day free meditation and yoga camp organized by Colleague and SBI Pensioners’ Association from June 21.

A white board was donated to Sishu Kalyan LP School (Green Nursery School), Dhubri and was handed over to Raja Mahato, Headmaster of the school, by Madhab Chandra Paul, secretary of Colleague and SBI Pensioners’ Association, Dhubri.

Finally, resource person Pijush Mahato spoke on water abuse. “It is said that underground water level is depleting fast day by day and Day Zero is not far when no water will be available from underground, the frequent source of water supply,” Mahato said. He emphasized multiple use of water and suggested change in lifestyle to save water. Instead of using running water or shower, if bucket and mug are, 300 litres of water can be saved by one family per day, he said. He suggested rain water harvesting and wide use of rain water and its storage. “If we are not serious now, our next generation will not get water for their livelihood,” he warned.
