Dhubri: Dhubri police on Thursday fined a high-end Mercedes-Benz linked to Assam MLA Najrul Hoque’s family for illegally using a red beacon and unauthorised political identifiers. The vehicle, registered under Sirajul Hoque with the number AS-01EF-3333, was frequently seen displaying a "Unit President 23-Dhubri LAC" board in Hindi and a flashing red beacon—both violations of traffic and vehicle decorum laws.
Following an earlier notice, the vehicle was summoned to Dhubri Sadar Police Station, where authorities removed the unauthorized signage and beacon. Sources revealed the car was used by the MLA’s son, Atique Shakil Hoque, allegedly to gain political clout and special road privileges.
Valued at over ₹40 lakh, the car’s penalization underscores the police’s message that misuse of power and disregard for traffic laws will not be tolerated—regardless of status.
