LAKHIMPUR: From the second blind school of the State located at Bihpuriya in Lakhimpur district, a student passed the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam with flying colours this year too, like the students of the previous years.

This differently-abled student is Pallabi Borah, daughter of Narayan Borah and Junu Borah, permanent resident of Gagal Gaon, Kalabari under Biswanath district. Appearing in the exam from the Assam Andha Sishu Bidyalaya, Bihpuriya, Pallabi has passed the exam securing first division with 73 overall percentage. She has scored 63 in Assamese, 80 in English, 86 in General Mathematics, 63 in General Science, 75 in Social Science and 71 in elective subject Hindi. Pallabi secured a grand total of 438 with letter marks in two subjects- second language subject English and General Mathematics.

Significantly, Pallabi secured the internal assessment marks in other subjects but these were not tabled in the subject of General Science. In this subject, she only got the theory mark 63 as per her mark sheet wherein the specified space for the internal assessment marks remained blank. In this regard, Diganta Hazarika, the headmaster of the school, cast doubt of error in the tabulation of her marks in the SEBA office. He stated that the school authority would communicate with the SEBA to wipe out of the discrepancy in Pallabi’s mark sheet.

Assam Andha Sishu Bidyalaya, Bihpuriya, was established 50 years ago in 1969. The school has still been waiting for provincialization despite having a due infrastructure.
