Digboi MLA Suren Phukan Seeks Dharmendra Pradhan’s Intervention

TINSUKIA: Suren Phukan, the MLA of Digboi, exasperated by the deplorable condition of the iconic AOD Hospital in Digboi due to excessive interference of administration and HR departments of IOCL (AOD), met Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, at his Delhi office early this week and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention in restoration of the past glory of the hospital. Phukan was accompanied by Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Dileep Saikia, Mangaldoi MP, besides members of Digboi Municipal Board.

In memorandum, Phukan alleged that poor quality of doctors were serving in the hospital even as posts were lying vacant for experienced and qualified physicians. Just as in OIL, Duliajan, where the Medical Unit was being administered by the GM Medical without any interference of HR or any other department, the policy could be adapted for IOCL (AOD) Hospital for a better future, Phukan stated, further suggesting that the hospital could be merged with Sri Ramkrishna Hospital like Numaligarh Refinery Hospital.

Phukan also urged upon the minister to initiate steps to enhance refining capacity of Digboi Refinery from 0.65 MMT/Annum to 3 MMT/Annum. He further highlighted the administrative hiccup in respect of allotment of land behind IOCL (AOD) Multi Skill Development Institute for Digboi Water Supply Scheme. With NEISIDS under Ministry of DoNER gave final nod to the scheme and the land proposal was being forwarded by ED IOCL (AOD) to IOCL HQ New Delhi for approval, Phukan in another memorandum urged the Petroleum Minister to take up the issue with IOCL.
