DIGBOI: Digboi press fraternity along with various samities and organisations mourned the sudden demise of Chakrapani Upadhyaya (82), a former employee at Digboi Sowmer Vidyapith School here on Tuesday afternoon. Late Upadhyay was the father of Rajesh Upadhyay, a member of Digboi Journalists’ Union.
Known always for his smiling face and easy going nature, late Upadhyay had been confined to bed for the past few months on account of old-age ailments. Born during British Era in 1942 , late Upadhyay had served Sowmer Vidyapith School with full dedication and sincerity till his superannuation in 2002. A resident of Digboi Itavatta, late Upadhyay was not only popular among the teen students of the school for his humorous nature but was equally a popular face among the people of Digboi for his smiling face.
Various organisations including Bishnu Mandir Samity, Nepali Kalibari Samity, Gorkha Students body and Digboi press fraternities offered tribute and condoled the demise of a social activist Upadhayay.
Shocked at the passing away of a noble and joyful soul, Susil Saikia a former student of Sowmer Vidyapith and a retired AOD Employee while addressing the mourners at the funeral site recalled his school days having developed quite a close affinity with late Upadhyay who was always seen adorning smiles on his face irrespective of circumstances whatsoever.
The funeral rites of late Upadhyay was religiously carried out according to Hindu practice at Itavatta Hindu Cremation Ground amidst sobs and tears. Late Upadhyay was survived by his journalist son Rajesh Upadhyay, wife, daughters.
