DIGBOI: Digboi recorded 77.30 per cent turnout in the Lok Sabha polls for 13 Dibrugarh HPC that concluded on Thursday late evening amidst reports of poll anomalies and alleged proxy voting in some of the sensitive polling stations in Digboi. While Tinsukia recorded 75.96 per cent, Margherita and Doomdoma recorded 79.5 and 77.86 percentage of casting respectively. Of the polling in five of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam during its first phase of polling on Thursday, several polling stations in Tinsukia district witnessed late night casting mainly due to technical errors and scorching heat during the day.
Of the total 154 polling station across Digboi assembly constituency, in polling station number 101, several voters were earlier denied of franchise right for their names were found missing in the voters’ list while at Bogapani in 86 Number polling stations, two cases of proxy casting surfaced wherin two electorates were deprived of voting as some unknown persons already voted in lieu of the two genuine voters of the tea garden area.
10 EVM in various locations were also found defective which categorically outlines the extent of negligence of the concerned returning officers and polling teams. A case of vote-rigging was also reported at Bapapung LP School. Of the total 1, 34689 voters in Digboi including the male and female, 77.30 percent of voters turned out and exercise their franchise notably recording a diminishing trend of poll participation from 79.37% in 2014. The total male voters for the first phase polls in the State were 38, 65,334 while the number of female voters stood at 37, 37,970. There were also 154 third gender voters on Thursday’s poll.
