

GUWAHATI: The 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing on Sunday included three digital banking units of SBI's North Eastern Circle at Mushalpur in the Baksa district of Assam, 9th Mile in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya and Kakching in the Kakching district of Manipur on 16th October, 2022 at 11AM.
Hon'ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had in Union Budget 2022-23 announced the setting up of 75 DBUs in as many districts of the country to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence. The DBUs are being set up to ensure that the benefits of digital banking reach every nook and corner of the country, stated a press release.
DBU is a new delivery platforms of the banks whereby banks would deliver products digitally through two zones - one a 24x7 self service mode and the second a Digital Assistance Zone where bank officials will guide customers for digital transactions. DBUs will have facilities for cash withdrawal and deposit, account opening, RDs, FDs, digital loans, passbook printing, balance enquiry, fund transfer etc.
The DBU shall also spread Digital Financial Literacy and will provide customer education on digital transactions and cyber security safeguards. These DBUs will provide real time customer assistance, redress customer grievances expeditiously, deepen financial inclusion and improve the digital echo system of the country.
The meeting at Musalpur was attended by Assam's Finance Minister Ajanta Neog and the one at 9th Mile was attended by Deputy Managing Director of SBI Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager, Arvind Kumar Singh, local MLA Sanbor Shullai and other senior functionaries of SBI and RBI. The opening ceremony at Kakching was attended by SBI General Manager NW-II Lunkim Thangboi , Deputy General Manager (TBU) Monojit Saikia, Regional Manager Hepuni Bismarck and Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh along with BJP Manipur State president Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi and Member of Parliament Maharaja Leishamba Sanajaoba.
