HAFLONG: Sufferings of the Harangajao people due to the dilapidated condition of Miyunkro to Harangajao seems to be never-ending, said residents of the area.

Former Gaon Bura of Miyungkro village, Madon Langthasa said that Laxmi Motors has been engaged by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the work from Jatinga to Harangajao but the company does not work properly. Sometimes they dump rubbish on the road for days which causes immense inconvenience and traffic.

People find it very difficult and risky to drive from Harangajao to Haflong risking the lives of passengers.

Since the condition of the road between Harangajao to Haflong is bad, the people of Harangajao have been suffering for not less than 15 years since the commencement of the four-lane Sourastra to Silchar National Highway. Haflong being the Head Quarters of Dima Hasao, the people of Harangajao have to visit Haflong now and then by road for official works, medical, etc.

Another driver said that travelling to Silchar from Haflong has become a nightmare as the condition of the road is indescribable till date. The vehicle often gets stuck on the road causing utter inconvenience to the people.

Moreover, the portion from Jatinga to Miyungkro, which was repaired a few months back is also damaged at many locations. This has raised many questions regarding the quality of construction.

The NH has sanctioned 54 crores for the work from Jatinga to Harangajao on EPC mode and Ratna company was engaged but another company named Laxmi motor has been executing the work. The work was to be completed within February 22 as per the contract and maintenance was to be carried out for another few years.
