Dima Hasao Bodies Protest Abduction and Killing of Santosh Hojai outside Haflong DC Office

Guwahati:

Continuing the outcry over the abduction and killing of Dima Hasao contractor Santosh Hojai, three organisations -- Dimasa Students Union (DSU), All Dimasa Students Union (ADSU) and Dimasa Mothers Association (DMA) --  today began a three-day sit-in demonstration in front of the Dima Hasao DC Office.

The organizations are now jointly demanding the immediate suspension and arrest of former Dima Hasao Deputy SP Surya Kanta Morang and other accused, initiation of a CBI inquiry into the matter, and compensation to the deceased family. The failure to meet these demands, they said, will compel them to carry out a major movement.

It may be recalled that on April 24 at around 6 pm amidst the heavy security of the lockdown, Santosh Hojai was kidnapped from his residence at Harangajao and on April 30, his body was recovered along NH 27 around 100 km from his home at Lailing under Langting police station.

Jayanta Hojai, wife of Santosh Hojai along with some neighbours rushed to Harangajao Police Station to lodge an FIR soon after the incident. Surprisingly Officer-In-Charge, Harangajao Police Station refused to accept her written complaint by stating that her husband would return by night.

The next day she again tried to lodge the FIR but was refused again by the Officer-In-Charge of Harangajao Police Station. After she moved to the High Court on April 26, then only her FIR was accepted by Officer-In-Charge of the Harangajao Police Station. This conduct of the local officials has been heavily condemned by locals.

Additionally, there have been allegations that Surya Kanta Morang, who was the Deputy SP of Dima Hasao and has since been transferred to Katlichara 21 AP(IR)BN as Assistant Commandant, was involved in the incident.
