Haflong: The people of Dima Hasao have warmly welcomed the Central Government’s decision to allocate Rs. 500 crore to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) under the Special Development Packages (SDPs) for Assam and Tripura. The decision was finalized during a recent Union Cabinet meeting.
A total of Rs. 4,250 crore was approved under the package, with Rs. 3,000 crore earmarked for infrastructure development in Assam, Rs. 500 crore for development in Adivasi-inhabited areas, Rs. 500 crore for NCHAC to support development in DNLA-inhabited areas of Dima Hasao, and Rs. 250 crore for tribal development in Tripura. Arup Gorlosa, general secretary of Jadikhe Naiso Hosom (Dimasa Apex Body), praised the Central Government’s initiative, stating that the grant would drive large-scale development across various sectors in the district. Pramith Sengyung, general secretary of the Dimasa Students’ Union, highlighted that the funds would address critical issues in the district. He emphasized the need for transparency and effective implementation of the package to ensure maximum impact. A Haflong resident expressed optimism, noting that the grant would significantly improve road infrastructure, enhance the education system, and address unemployment challenges in the district.
