Haflong: The newly-posted Dima Hasao Chief Conservator of Forest Muanthang Tungnung, while expressing concern over the recent killing of white deer and increasing trend of jhum cultivation (shifting cultivation) in Dima Hasao, has appealed to the people of Dima Hasao to cooperate with the forest department to curb the menace of deforestation in the district.

Talking to mediapersons, Tungnung said the district of Dima Hasao was bestowed with natural beauty and bounty with highest forest cover and also with abundance of flora and fauna. "But perhaps due to lack of far-sightedness, people ignore the importance of such natural wealth. To maintain proper ecosystem, presence of all the natural wealth should be preserved at any cost for the next generation. Therefore, people's cooperation is must. From our side we are organizing mass awareness campaign, distributing leaflets detailing the Wildlife Act and also importance of preservation of wildlife and forest," he said.
