Dima Hasao PHE employees to call off indefinite strike for 15 days

HAFLONG: The Dima Hasao Public Health Engineering employees will call off their indefinite strike temporarily from Tuesday following the assurance of early payment of salaries, said Bipul Longmailai, secretary All Assam PHE Employee Association, Haflong branch on Monday.

Demanding immediate release of 12 months pending salary, more than 538 employees of Dima Hasao Public Health Engineering had ceased working from June 4 for an indefinite period. As these employees were deprived of monthly salary for a long time, their children were facing various difficulties. Some medical and engineering students had to discontinue their studies as their parents were unable bear their expenses.

Talking to mediapersons, Longmailai said that following the assurance from the Executive Engineer, PHE, Haflong of early payment of salary and considering the difficulties faced by the public since the last few days during the COVID-19 situation, the All Assam PHE Employee Association, Haflong branch had decided to postpone the agitation programme for 15 days with effect from June 16, 2020.
