HAFLONG: At least 538 employees of the Public Health Engineering Department of Dima Hasao will go on indefinite strike from June 3 if the Government of Assam fails to clear up their 12 months' pending salary before June 2, said Bipul Longmailai, general secretary of the All Assam PHE Employees' Association, Haflong branch.

The pending salary of the PHE employees has not been released even after a series of agitations and submitting memoranda to all authorities concerned, including the Chief Minister and the State Finance Minister. Left with no option, the PHE employees, after submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister on Friday, decided to go for indefinite strike from June 3.

Bipul Longmailai said, "We understand the problem people will face if we go for strike but we are forced to do since we have not got our salary, not for one or two months but for 12 long months. Can anyone imagine how these employees are surviving without getting their monthly salary?"
