Dima Hasao to get Haflong Polytechnic College in 16 months

HAFLONG: The Gauhati High Court has clearly directed the PWD (B) and the other Departments to complete the construction works of the Polytechnic College at Chotowapu, Haflong, in the Dima Hasao District of Assam within 16 months from the date of order. The Court delivered the order in the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) 4/2021 — Roton Hojai and 3 others versus State of Assam and nine others — on August 4, 2021.

The PIL was filed by five local inhabitants of the Hill District of Dima Hasao Assam represented by their advocate Bhaskar Baruah of the Gauhati High Court, seeking a direction to the different departments of the government of Assam to constitute a committee to complete the polytechnic college. The order has been delivered "since the site of the polytechnic was in a dilapidated condition for long and the construction work could not be completed till date".

The order came on the assurance of the PWD (B) led by Chief Engineer, PWD (Building), Assam who apprised the High Court about the matter. He also assured the court to complete the construction work within the fixed timeframe.

The Haflong polytechnic college was a long-cherished dream of the people of Dima Hasao, but even after starting of the project long back, it was left in uncertainty. Expressing happiness over the success, the petitioners said that they are always to raise the voice against corruption and injustice meted out to the people. They have met several union ministers and also submitted memorandum for the overall development of the district and said more good news for the district are coming which will be disclosed soon in front of the media and public.

Meanwhile the Executive Engineer, Contractor and other officials visited the site on Friday and assured that the works for the Haflong Polytechnic College has already started and would complete in stipulated time. At this the people of Dima Hasao appreciated the move of the individuals and the organisations for which the Haflong Polytechnic College is about to be established ultimately.
