Dimasa bodies stage dharna in Haflong, demand redressal of grievances

HAFLONG: Reminding the Railway Minster for immediate redressal of public grievances, the All Dimasa Students' Union, Maibang Zonal Committee, in collaboration with Dimasa Women Association, Dishru Cultural Club and Dimasa Students' Union, Dima Hasao District Committee staged dharna at the Railway over bridge at Maibang on Saturday.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goel through the Subdivisional Officer (Civil) Maibang. It was stated that they had put forth their demands on March 14, 2015 to the then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu but the Railway authority failed to address their grievances. As a result, people lost confidence in the Railway Ministry, holding it responsible for the loss of several human lives run over at Maibang Station.

They gave an ultimatum stating that if the Railway authority failed to resolve their problems within December 10, they would launch a rigorous democratic agitation throughout the district for which the Railway authority would be held responsible for any consequences.
