HAFLONG: In a powerful press meet held at the office of Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom, the apex Dimasa body, leading Dimasa civil organizations including JNH, Dimasa Students’ Union, All Dimasa Students Union, Dimasa Mothers’ Association, Dima Jalai Hosom, and Haflong Haphai Awareness Hosom voiced their collective outrage over the disturbing rise of unsolved and mysterious murder cases in Dima Hasao district.

Officials from these bodies expressed deep sorrow and unwavering condemnation of the continued failure of law enforcement agencies to investigate and solve these grave crimes. They noted that behind each unsolved case lay a shattered family and a fearful community, with justice eluding the people most affected.

“These are not mere statistics. They are lives lost under suspicious and heartbreaking circumstances. The silence and inertia from law enforcement are deeply unsettling,” the representatives declared. The organizations highlighted a troubling pattern of little to no progress in investigations, lack of accountability, and a glaring absence of communication from authorities. They warned that such negligence threatened the rule of law and corroded public trust.

To restore faith and ensure justice, they demanded a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into each unresolved case, reopening of old cases with enhanced forensic support and fresh scrutiny of evidence, accountability for derelict officers involved in past investigation failures, regular updates to victims’ families on case status and progress, protection for whistleblowers and witnesses to encourage truth-telling without fear, and installation of CCTV cameras at key public locations in all towns across Dima Hasao district.

The assembled leaders reaffirmed their solidarity with grieving families and pledged to persist in their advocacy until justice is achieved. They concluded by echoing the principle of ‘Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.’

Speakers at the press meet included Kailen Daulagupu (President, Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom), Pramith Sengyung (General Secretary, DSU Central Committee), and Maipal Kemprai (Dimasa Mothers’ Association), among others.
