SILCHAR: Prabal Deb, an employee of the Director of Information and Public Relations Barak Valley zone fell prey to cyber frauds. Deb reportedly forgot the password of his newly purchased iPhone 14 Pro and was unable to operate it. Being denied assistance by the shop he had purchased the mobile set, Deb resorted to Google as he tried to search online customer care service for Apple iPhone. To his relief, he found a contact number of customer care help desk. Being assured of solving his problem online, Deb exchanged some details with the so called help desk. Deb was instructed to install an app in his handset through which they could gain access to his phone. By the process, Deb divulged all information about his new mobile. Finally they asked him to transfer Rs 10 from his bank account. Just as he did, an amount of Rs 21,000 was debited from his account. He was puzzled enough to sense what had happened, another amount of Rs 21,000 was debited from his credit.

After an hour, Deb got a message from Bajaj Finserv stating that his loan for Rs 25 lakh had been processed and asked him to confirm it. Deb immediately rang Bajaj Finserv and to his utter surprise came to know that a loan application was sent online through the app of the financial institute. Deb readily disowned the loan application and asked them to cancel the loan request. Later Prabal Deb lodged an FIR with Silchar police. Deb had reportedly came to know that the frauds called him from a place in Jharkhand.
