LAKHIMPUR: The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees (DISHA) meeting of Lakhimpur district was held on Monday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

The meeting commenced with Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, the chairperson of DISHA, Lakhimpur district, in the chair. It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, DISHA members, representatives of Lakhimpur, Naoboicha, Bihpuria and Dhakuakhana MLAs, Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members and the district heads of the government departments.

Chief Executive Officer of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, Tripurendra Pator explained the objective of the programme and read out the minutes of the last DISHA meeting. Then the progress of the implementation of various developmental schemes and projects in the district, implemented by the government departments, was reviewed. From the chair, MP Pradan Baruah called upon the departmental heads of the district to implement the government schemes and projects effectively in war-footing.

He asked the PRI members to take part actively in the implementation works of the schemes for the benefit of the common people. He asked the electricity divisional, circle offices to electrify the still non-electrified schools, Anganwadi centers of the district within a month. The MP asked the District Health Department to pay utmost importance to provide medical services at the Laluk Model Hospital and to facilitate it with the due medical machinery at the earliest.

On the other hand, the officer concerned of the Handloom and Textile Department informed that a total of 19,110 weavers of the district had registered their names till date to avail the benefits of the Swanirbhar Nari Atmanirbhar Assam scheme. Notably, the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees (DISHAs) have been formed to ensure better coordination among all the elected representatives in Parliament, State Legislatures and Local Governments (Panchayati Raj Institutions/Municipal Bodies) for efficient and time-bound development. It is a government wide initiative that seeks to promote participative governance and deliberative democracy.

DISHA seeks to achieve this by facilitating a quarterly review of all development activities at the district level. The chairperson of a DISHA committee is the senior most Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) elected from the district and nominated by the Ministry of Rural Development.
