Distribution of millet seeds to farmers in Kokrajhar
Synchronizing with the celebrations of International Year of Millet

KOKRAJHAR: Synchronizing with the celebrations of International Year of Millet, NABARD, Kokrajhar in association with the department of Agriculture, BTC and Green Leaf NGO organized a distribution programme of millet seeds to the farmers at Bhaoragwja village in Kokrajhar.
The sources from NABARD, Kokrajhar said the International Year of Millet 2023 and also Assam Millet Mission which was launched in 2022, the NABARD Assam Regional Office, Guwahati had sanctioned 21 Model Millet projects covering 21 districts of Assam to different Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs). Kokrajhar is one of the districts which will be implementing the project. In this connection, a formal launching and distribution of Millet Seeds (Foxtail) to the farmers was held at Bhaoragwja village, Alangi, Patgaon, in Kokrajhar.
The occasion was graced by Binod Basumatary, Director & CHD, Deptt. of Agriculture, BTR, Govt. of Assam, Ratan Mani Soram, DDM NABARD, Kokrajhar and officials of Green Leaf NGO (PIA). In the programme, foxtail millet seeds were distributed to the selected beneficiaries for sowing.
Speaking on the occasion, the CHD of Agriculture, BTR Binod Basumatary said that the year 2023 had been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of the Millet, following a proposal by India, which wants to position itself as a global hub for millets. He also told that Model Millet Project of NABARD will go a long way to popularize the crop in Kokrajhar district and in augmenting the Assam Millet Mission launched last year through deptt. of Agriculture.
DDM, NABARD, Kokrajhar told that the project will be implemented in 150 Bigha of land in Bhaoragwja and East Maoriagaon area of Kokrajhar block benefiting 50 farmers. He also told that the project period will be for one year and NABARD will provide, seeds, farm yard manure, fertilizer, land preparation cost, plant protection measures, capacity building, exposure visit of farmers, post-harvest machinery and establishment of value chain and market linkage.
