District development committee reviews key schemes and performance indicators in Sonitpur

TEZPUR: The meeting of the district development committee for the month of July was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Ankur Bharali at the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Sonitpur. District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, Co-District Commissioner of Dhekiajuli Dyotiva Bora, additional district commissioners Twahir Alam and Kabita Kakati Konwar, along with heads of departments of Sonitpur district, were present in the meeting. At the outset, the District Commissioner elaborated on district ranking and performance, discussing various parameters and indicators with the concerned departments and holding an in-depth deliberation on ways to improve public service delivery. Referring to data from the Financial Year 2024-25 report, he pointed out departments that need to work in mission mode, addressing both state-level indicators and those laid out by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog).

Special emphasis was laid on the performance of the health department in areas such as child and maternal mortality rates, immunization coverage, and institutional deliveries. The agriculture department was urged to focus on the saturation of schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and paddy procurement. The Department Of Food, Public Distribution And Consumer Affairs was asked to improve coverage under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and streamline distribution. The Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (DoHUA) was reviewed in terms of implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) [PMAY (U)], property tax collection, and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-U). The Department of Women and Child Development was asked to ensure proper implementation of flagship schemes and to focus on the creation and functioning of Model Anganwadi Centres. Discussions also included the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), among others. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was directed to focus on the declaration of Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF Plus) Model Villages and to ensure the use of the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025 (SBMSSG2025) app for feedback mechanisms. The District Commissioner instructed regular meetings on the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and related issues amongst the concerned departments.

Ongoing works under the Public Works Department (Roads & Building), Water Resources Department, and embankment restoration works undertaken by the Tezpur Water Resources Division (TWRD) were also reviewed. Updates were taken from the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) on the status of form submission under the Mukhya Mantrir Eti Koli Duti Paat Asoni by respective tea gardens. The District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department provided a briefing on vaccination under LH&DCP. The district’s demand, supply, and production of eggs and poultry were also discussed.
