PASIGHAT: The East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu said that climate change and its effects on human health is an important area of global concern in today’s modern world and it needs to be addressed through various proactive and mitigation measures. The DC said this while chairing the District level Task Force (DLTF) meeting on the National Programme on Climate Change & Human Health NPCCHH on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting, Taggu called for the need for every citizen and stakeholders to protect our environment. He noted the inputs and issues are put forward by stakeholders from tackling indiscriminate use of weedicides, pes-ticides, pollution, combating all kinds of pollution including vehicular pollution, and massive plantation to combat deforestation, awareness etc. The DC was addressing HoDs and stakeholders of various departments at DC Con-ference Hall .

Earlier, DMO Dr.Radesh Tatan, highlighted the aims and objectives of the DTF meeting. The District Nodal Of-ficer (NPCCHH ), Dr.Tarik Talom presented a Power point presentation on National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders the district.

During the meeting, every member of the DTF from various departments participated and gave inputs on the way forward in mitigating ill effects of climate change in the district in particular and others in general.

Among others, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) also spoke on the ill effects of weedicides and pesticides ,which cause soil erosion apart from various health related problems for the population. DDMO apprised that awareness among public and the spoke on environmental effects which causes disasters.

District Veterinary Officer(DVO) also informed that food poisioning and other vector causing diseases are more prone to occur in monsoon season because of unhygienic keeping of domesticated animals.

Meanwhile, District Transport Officer (DTO) informed that the pollution checking of vehicle is already engaged in the district and every vehicle owner are required to get pollution emission checked. EE PHE spoke that excessive deforestation is leading to diminishing of drinking water sources and scarcity.
