TEZPUR: A District Rural Road Seminar was organized at the new conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday which was organized by the Tezpur, Sootea and Rangapara Rural Roads Division and the Borsola and Dhekiajuli Rural Roads Division under Sonitpur and Biswanath Roads Division of the Public Works Department (PWD). The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das, in the presence of president of Sonitpur Zila Parishad, Dolly Surin, CEO, Zila Parishad, Diganta Baishya, DDC Soban Gowala, and other officials.
At the very outset, Executive Engineer, PWD, Tezpur, Sootea and Rangapara Division, Ajit Kumar Medhi delivered the welcome address and explained the objectives of the meeting. Superintending Engineer, PWD, Sonitpur and Biswanath Roads Division, Kamakhya Prasad Das gave a detailed overview of the various works undertaken by the PWD (Roads) department under the flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) during phase I, II and III through a power-point presentation. He also spoke about the various latest type of technology used in construction of rural roads and the importance of the PMGSY scheme in bringing about rural transformation.
The idea of the seminar is to educate and create awareness among the public and various stakeholders about the work being done by the PWD and to impart knowledge on the various technology used.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Das thanked the PWD for organizing such an informative session and lauded the good works done by the department through the PMGSY scheme.
President of Sonitpur Zila Parishad, Dolly Surin said that the present government was committed towards improving road connectivity in the remote corners of the State and asked the PWD officials to stay in constant touch with the panchayati raj members to take up more schemes under the PMGSY scheme and to lay special focus on tea garden areas.
