Doctor assaulted by two youths in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: A doctor was assaulted by two youths at his residence in Dibrugarh on Monday following a Facebook comment. The injured doctor has been identified as Geetartha Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh. Dr Geetartha has been doing his internship at a hospital in Majuli. Dr Geetartha is also a singer and recently he has released a song in YouTube.

Meanwhile, Geetartha’s family members filed an FIR at Gabarupathar police outpost. The injured doctor was undergoing treatment at Dibrugarh hospital. Geetartha is the son of Kiran Saikia and Ruma Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh.

Talking to media persons, Kiran Saikia, father of Geetartha said, “On Monday, two youngsters came to our house and asked for Geetartha. One of them revealed to me that he was Geetartha's friend. They declined when I asked them to enter. As Geetartha arrived to meet them, they immediately began attacking him. They viciously attacked him, rendering him unconscious, but they persisted. They escaped in a car when I intervened.”

“My son sustained injuries on head, ear and other parts of his body. He is undergoing treatment in hospital. We request the police to arrest the person immediately,” Kiran Saikia said. One of the youth, who assaulted Geetartha has been identified as Debraj Borgohain.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dibrugarh Additional superintendent of police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “Geetartha was assaulted by the another youth due to some Facebook post. A case was registered at Gabarupathar police outpost and we are investigating the matter. Till now, no arrest has been made in connection with the case.”
