Doctor assaulted in Kalain Primary Health Centre in Katigorah

SILCHAR: An on duty doctor was beaten at Jalalpur Block Primary Health Centre in Katigorah on Saturday night. Police had arrested a person from Silchar on Sunday evening on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim.

Dr Rohit Daga was on duty at the PHC on Saturday night as usual. Sources said, Sudhir Das, a local trader and a close of aide of Congress leader as well as the husband of Kushiarkul GP president along with some of his companions arrived at the PHC and eventually got into a brawl. Sources said, family members of a patient had informed Runu Nath that there was no doctor in the PHC and Nath had reportedly asked Das to look into it. Eyewitness Sudhir Das was intoxicated and misbehaved with the doctor and at one point dragged Dr Daga out of the PHC and beat him badly in front of other people present there. However local people rescued the doctor from Das and his companions. Dr Daga lodged an FIR with Gumrah police station. DGP G P Singh in his twitter handle said after the incident that the absconding accused had been identified and efforts were on to arrest him. Later in the evening police arrested Sudhir Das from Silchar. However rest of the accused were still absconding.
