Morigaon: Vegetables like pumpkin, bottle gourd, bitter gourd from COVID-19 hotspot area Laharighat have allegedly made their way into Morigaon town. This has raised eyebrows of the local people as well as caused concern among them.

The people of the town alleged that due to the lockdown, the district was facing scarcity of vegetables along with other essential commodities. Despite this, how could vegetable growers provide door-to-door fresh vegetables in the town?

A source alleged that the vegetable growers were supplying fresh vegetables from the COVID-19 hotspot area of Laharighat. By breaching the police patrolling in the border areas, the growers allegedly bring in vegetables in mini trucks or two wheelers in the wee hours and drop them at Charaihagi, about 1 km away from the town. A section of local growers just pick up the vegetables in two wheelers or in the tom-tom rickshaws and deliver the vegetables door-to-door.

There is fear and apprehension among the people that these vegetables might be carriers of the dreaded coronavirus and have urged the police to stop such vegetable growers in the border areas.
