Door-To-Door Garbage Collection Project Begins in Two Wards of Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: Door-to-door collection of household waste in two wards under Sivasagar Municipal Board (SMB) began on Friday. The door-to-door waste collection project was inaugurated by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya at a function held at SMB Water Supply Project campus at Phukan Nagar. The door-to-door collection has been initiated by Women SHGs under DAY NULM in association with Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) at Ward No. 10 and Ward No. 14.

Inaugurating the project, the Deputy Commissioner spoke about the importance of door-to-door collection with source segregation which is the first step towards successful solid waste management. She said, “Door-to-door garbage collection is necessary for maintaining cleanliness. She appealed to the local public to start backyard composting or pit composting. Earlier, the purpose of the event was highlighted by Rituraj Bordoloi, Executive Officer of Sivasagar Municipal Board. The inauguration programme was also attended by chairperson of Sivasagar Municipal Board Mridusmita Singha, vice-chairman Azad Alam, ward commissioners of Ward No10 and 14, AEE of Sivasagar Municipal Board Mridul Nath, CPO of Swachh Bharat Mission Mirajuddin Ahmed, CPM of DAY-NULM, Sivasagar and local public.
